Home to Randolph Duke, fashion designer of the stars, the Openhouse sits on the Hollywood Hills, overlooking the famed Sunset Boulevard. Described as "Glamorganic", and AIA (American Institute of Architects) award for best residential design in 2007, the 4,800-square-foot house has three bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms mounting minimal and glamorous Gessi fixtures. Outdoor terraces, decks and gardens add 6,500 square feet to the living space. The minimalist logic of the architecture is transformed by direct and indirect connections to the surrounding nature with virtually no boundaries between indoors and out. Glass, in various renditions, is the primary enclosure material allowing for uninterrupted views over Los Angeles and lending lightness to the interior spaces. The electric glass walls are visually counterweighted by sculptural, solid elements in the house, rendered in luxurious materials: chiseled granite countertops, seamless quartz floors, rift oak and plaster walls, stainless-steel appliances and mirrored finishes.
